However, you’ll be surprised, every year more and more luxury hotels and global hotel chains are popping up around the country. Cambodia is becoming a popular travel destination, especially due to Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples near Siem Reap. Although you’re unlikely to find stunning pool villas with views of the crystal clear waters like it’s neighbouring countries of Thailand and Vietnam, there are still plenty of luxurious hotels throughout Cambodia for the luxury traveller. Located in the French quarter of Siem Reap, and only a 10 minute tuk-tuk ride from Angkor Wat, Amansara is perfectly located within the city. With only 24 suites surrounded in lush tropical gardens it offers the ultimate in luxury, tranquility and privacy almost as if you are in a house you have rented for yourself.
Song Saa is a remote private island resort off the coast of Cambodia by the island of Koh Rong. Song Saa Private Island offers ultra-luxurious villas built either into the jungle or perched on stilts over the sea. With fabulous food, a soporific spa, and a ravishingly relaxing vibe, as well as being an eco-luxe escape being green-minded has never been so glamourous.
With just 12 tented rooms, located right on the edge of the Tatai river you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to service, privacy and personal feel. There is nothing quite like this hotel in the region, it’s luxurious, but steers clear of opulent, and doesn’t look out of place given the rainforest and river setting. However, there is no wi-fi which may make or break your choice of staying here, but all in all 4 Rivers Floating Lodge is a great place to escape the daily life and relax in peace without internet connection.
Currently there are no ultra luxurious hotels in the capital, Phnom Penh. However, The Sofitel is probably one of the best hotels to stay at whilst exploring the city. Located just 3 km from the 19th-century Royal Palace and 4 km from the Central Market you’re within a short distance of all the major sites. With a wide range of facilities including 5 restaurants with a range of cuisines, 4 bars, 2 outdoor pools and fitness facilities. Other offerings include sports courts, a sauna, a children’s club and a business centre.
This resort located in Siem Reap 10 km from the iconic Angkor Wat. It is designed in a classic Khmer style, with only 39 villas dotted around the lush tropical gardens. The larger villas come with their own private gardens and a spa area with a whirlpool hot tub. We have stayed at plenty of Anantara properties and have always been catered by world-class staff, and I’m sure this is no exception.
Elegant and modern, the Park Hyatt offers spacious rooms that ooze Khmer-inspired comfort with a luxurious feel. From the incredible interconnected pools to its free-floating cushioned dining platforms, everything is overwhelmingly sumptuous at the Park Hyatt. With just a few minutes’ walk to the Old Market area, it is the only luxury hotel in central Siem Reap.
Located just outside the city of Siem Reap in the Khmer countryside it is encompassed by over 8 hectares of lush jungle, and allows for a real feeling of escape and tranquility whilst still being in easy reach of the main attractions in Siem Reap. Designed by Parisian based architects, AW₂, to give the feel of an authentic Khmer village in rural surroundings it does just that. Phum Baitang opened only in September 2015 it is also one of the newest luxury hotels in the Siem Reap area.
Around Sihanoukville luxury hotels are scarce. However, Naia Beach Resort is probably the most luxurious and tranquil resorts in the area. If first impressions count, Naia has it sewn up. The exterior catches your eye instantly, with clean white designs and a brilliant modern pool. Whilst inside, muted colours and 1950s-inspired décor inspire calm and relaxation. The hotel sits on Otres 2, one of Sihanoukville’s quieter, more relaxing beaches.
